BURLINGTON, N.C. -
LabCorp is asking Guilford County for $373,000 in exchange for creating 373 jobs and investing $3 million at two facilities in the county.
The average salary of the jobs would be about $26,000, and the positions range from building operations to lab technicians. LabCorp said it plans to train students at GTCC and other technical colleges for the entry-level jobs.
Guilford County Commissioners Chairman Skip Alston said the county usually requires companies to create jobs with salaries around $40,000 in order to be eligible for incentives, but the county really needs new jobs now.
"We do have a high unemployment rate, and any jobs that any corporation would bring to Guilford County would be greatly appreciated and are welcome," he said Tuesday.
Burlington-based LabCorp plans to open one location in Greensboro and another near the airport.
Alston said the commissioners would vote on the incentives next Thursday. He believes it will pass.
