RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- -
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed North Carolina's first case of H1N1 swine flu in Onslow County, according to Gov. Bev Perdue on Sunday.
Health Director Dr. Jeffrey Engle said there are six probable cases, four people in Craven County (all related), the spouse of the person who tested positive, and one case in Wake County. All have been isolated.
The probable case in Onslow County is expected to be confirmed Monday, according to Engle.
Engel would not identify the sickened person, except to say a couple who traveled to San Antonio, Texas, acquired the disease. Engel said he didn't know when they had traveled, but did say the couple had been in Texas for about five days when the person picked up the flu.
The couple from Onslow County had recently been to San Antonio, Tex., which is where officials believe they contracted the flu.
No one has been hospitalized at this time, according to Engle. They are all sick with flu-like symptoms.
Engle said of the 413 samples were sent to the CDC, 320 came back negative.
The state is receiving 1 million masks and 1 million antiviral treatment from the CDC. Supplies are already being sent out to county health departments across the state.
