ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. -
A woman spent 19 hours in the woods over the weekend before a group of kids noticed where her SUV ran off the road and down into a culvert.
Sandra Fuller, who was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon, told the North Carolina Highway Patrol she had just dropped a friend off at home around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night when she missed a curve on Whitney Rd. and plunged down into the thick brush of the creek.
Fuller's SUV went through a front yard, hit a satellite dish, sailed over some bushes and ended up in a culvert, hidden from the view of cars traveling along the road.
"She had to be just flying, dude," said Chris Penny as he relayed information about the crash to someone on the phone. Penny said he met Fuller several weeks back, shortly after she moved to the area.
Troopers said the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending against Fuller.
The people in the nearest home might have heard the wreck had they not been out of town for the holiday weekend. So with nobody around to see or help, Fuller laid in the woods for 19 hours before kids passing by on bicycles found her.
"That's a long time to lay out here hurting, injured," said Penny. "She's a very nice girl. I hate to see it happen to anybody."
