MOCKSVILLE, N.C. -
A former middle school teacher had inappropriate sexual contact with at least two underage females, according to indictments handed up by a Davie County grand jury earlier this week.
Doug Ebersbach, a 50-year-old former 7th-grade social studies teacher at William Ellis Middle School, was arrested in Ohio in early October and extradited to North Carolina several days later.
According to Davie County Assistant District Attorney Rob Taylor, Ebersbach kissed, touched and exposed himself to one female student, as well as took a graphic picture of her. Taylor said Ebersbach touched a second underage female and discussed sexual activity with her.
Taylor also said investigators found child pornography on Ebersbach's computer.
In total, the grand jury handed up 12 indictments against Ebersbach.
According to Capt. J.D. Hartman, the Davie County Sheriff's Office is still investigating Ebersbach. Additional charges could be filed, he said.
Ebersbach taught at South Davie Middle School for three years until he was transferred to William Ellis Middle School for the 2009-2010 school year due to "budget and staff reductions." He had worked with Davie County Schools since 2006.
Ebersbach was absent from his teaching position at William Ellis Middle School September 15-25. After Ebersbach found out about the charges, he resigned his position effective September 27 and moved to Ohio.
Bill Campbell, a spokesman for the school system, said the superintendent is working on an internal investigation into the matter. He said a background check when Ebersbach was hired did not turn up anything.
