GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Two surveyors found human skeletal remains behind a yellow house on Langside Rd. in Guilford County, north of the city limits.
"Some surveyors notified us that they had found the remains of what could be a human being," said Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes. "Our officers went back there and confirmed that it is what it appears to be.
The Guilford County Sheriff's Office said the bones were found in a wooded area with a lot of high brush behind the home.
Investigators interviewed the woman who owns the property. She told FOX8 News she's lived there for six years and never had a reason to go back to the area where the remains were found.
In the meantime, investigators started the tedious process of trying to identify the body.
"We are looking at all missing persons reports to see if they match any of the clothing that we've been able to locate," said Barnes.
Neighbors were a bit spooked by the discovery, saying they were glad their children weren't the ones who made the discovery.
"I got kids that play in this neighborhood, and we are two houses down from where they found the remains," said neighbor Jamey Money.
Investigators said the remains will be turned over to a medical examiner to try to figure out how long the body had been there and the cause of death.
