ASHEBORO, N.C. - An Asheboro man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Level Cross.

Two men robbed the Level Cross BP on May 12. After leaving the scene, Randolph County Sheriff Deputy Chad Oates tried to stop the car the two were in. Both ran from their car, shooting at Deputy Oates, who returned fire, hitting one of them.

Jackson Ellison was found a short time later dead in his driveway.

Authorities said the second robber, Arthur McCollum II of Asheboro, was arrested Friday. He is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

McCullom is being held in the Randolph County Jail. Authorities said bond will be set by a federal magistrate in Winston-Salem Monday.
