Asheboro Man Wins $1 Million in Scratch-off Game
RALEIGH, N.C. - An Asheboro man won $1 million in the North Carolina $200 Million Extravaganza scratch-off game.

John Luffman purchased the ticket at the Food Lion on Pointe South Drive in Randleman is ringing in the new year a $1 million winner. The Asheboro man bought a $200 Million Extravaganza ticket at the Food Lion on Pointe South Drive in Randleman. Luffman told lottery officials he had to look at the scratch off ticket "a half dozen times" to make sure he won.

Luffman's $1 million prize will be paid annually in $50,000 payments for the next 20 years. Luffman has already received his first check, which had an after-tax value of $34,006.

The instant win is not the first for Luffman. In January 2008, he claimed a $10,000 prize on a $100 Million Cash Spectacular ticket.

Thomas H. Donaldson of Gastonia also won $100,000 as part of the scratch-off ticket promotion.

The North Carolina Education Lottery has paid out $6 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Dec. 28.
