Crews Begin Work at Southwest High School
Work began Thursday on a $31 million expansion project at Southwest High School in Guilford County.

The project is being funded using money from the 2008 school bonds.

The work includes building a new media center, gymnasium and a new addition for classrooms for 560 students.

Southwest High Principal Alan Parker said the addition will replace 29 mobile classrooms being used at the school.

"You just aren't able to have a futuristic classroom in a mobile unit...so we are looking forward to bringing our kids to the 21st century with technology and permanent classroom spaces," said Parker.

The school has grown by over 400 students in the past few years.

The project is scheduled to be finished by the fall 2011.
