A Forsyth County Deputy was injured during a training exercise, the Mount Airy News is reporting.
According to the paper, the deputy was in a training class at the Mount Airy Police firing range last month when he was hit in the leg.
Dean Gordon is the director of law enforcement training at Surry Community College and said the bullet either ricocheted or a piece of a target struck the deputy.
Gordon said no one was intentionally firing in the deputy's direction. The unnamed deputy has returned to work.
