MCLEANSVILLE, N.C. - Family and friends are mourning the loss of Charles Herman Brown, Sr., 76, after deputies found him dead in his McLeansville home Wednesday night.

Authorities say Brown was possibly robbed, but they don't know how he died.

"We'll pull together and make it through Christmas, it's just going to be a sad time." said Perry Wood, Brown's daughter.

Brown's children say he was an avid gun and coin collector and dealer. He kept his collection in safes in his house, and they believe someone might have gone after these valuables.

"Somebody has pretty much robbed him, took all of his life savings, his safe and murdered him." said Anthony Brown, the victim's son.

Investigators say a friend was not able to get in touch with Brown for a few days and went to visit him at Brown's house at 4922 Streamside Dr. in McLeansville, where the neighbor found Brown dead on the floor.

"God's going to get whoever done this and they're going to pay dearly for what they did to daddy." Wood said.

Guilford County Sheriff Deputies say Brown's home had been ransacked.

"You could tell things have been gone through, things thrown around and laying on the floor. Of course the back door was broken into." said Major Tom Sheppard of the Guilford County Sheriff's Department.

Wood said Brown's collections were important to him.

"He told me one day it would be left for his children and grandchildren and he worked really hard for it." Wood said.

Brown's family and friends wish the criminals would have just taken the material items and money, not the life of Charles Brown, Sr.

"They didn't have to kill him. The could have took it, it didn't matter to me. All I wanted was my daddy to be safe and alive." Wood said.

Investigators say Brown had no obvious injuries, so they're still waiting on results from the medical examiners office.

There are currently no suspects or witnesses, and Guilford County Sheriff's Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers at 336-373-1000.
