DAVDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP)—
The state has announced plans to spend $1.5 million to refurbish the Wil-Cox bridge in Davidson County. The bridge, originally built in the 1920's, will be used for temporary detours while a new Interstate 85 bridge is constructed.
The seven arch concrete bridge spans nearly 1,300 feet across the Yadkin River.
When the interstate project is completed, the state will turn over the Wil-Cox bridge to Davidson County, along with the $2.5 million it would have spent to tear down the bridge.
The remaining funds will be used for future repairs. The county hopes to eventually have a greenway that connects the bridge to Boones Cave Park.
