GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Several businesses at a west Greensboro strip mall remain closed late Friday morning after an electrical fire forced the power to be shut off Thursday night.
The Greensboro Fire Department evacuated the Quaker Village Shopping Center across from Guilford College after responding to a fire call Thursday evening.
Officials have confirmed an electrical short in a small power supply room created a loud banging noise and started a fire at the shopping center at 5607 West Friendly Ave. in Greensboro.
A private contractor had to shut off power to part of the shopping center so firefighters could continue their investigation, conducting wiring and other safety checks.
Starbucks, Elizabeth's and about 10 other businesses remained without power as of 11:45 a.m. Friday.
Officials say there is smoke damage in the power supply room and in other parts of the building.
