GREENSBORO, N.C. - An 18-year-old senior at Western Guilford High School is being called a hero after she rescued her three brothers from their burning home earlier this week.

Kiera Bell was asleep when she awoke to popping noises in their Lionne Road home.

"I opened my door, and I smelled smoke." Bell said. She had just enough time to get her brothers out safely.

The Greensboro Fire Department says the fire was started by a candle in one of the bedrooms.

Kristy Bennett left her children at home to run to the store around 11:30 p.m. Monday when the fire started.

The Red Cross is providing the family with a motel room and other basic needs.

The home has major smoke damage, and one bedroom was destroyed by the fire. Bennett says they plan to move back in once repairs are finished in about two months. The fire department estimates the damage at $70,000.
