According to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, Steve Lee Stone, 44, used a cell phone to call 911 and threaten President Barack Obama on July 30. He did not identify himself during the call, but authorities traced the call to a trailer park on Bob Trail in Stoneville.
"I want to assassinate the God-d*** president," the caller said, a recording of the 911 call revealed Thursday.
A deputy was sent to the trailer park, but was unable to find the caller. Meanwhile, Rockingham authorities notified the U.S. Secret Service of the call.
About 24 hours later, Stone made another call to 911 that was heard by a Secret Service agent and a detective with the sheriff's office, according to authorities.
"I'm Michael Scott, and I want to assassinate the president," said the caller, who deputies say is actually Stone.
Investigators ultimately tracked the call to 109 Abernathy Dr. and went there to interview Stone. Authorities said during the questioning, Stone become combative and was shot with a Taser. He was then handcuffed and taken to the magistrate's office.
Stone was charged with two counts of misusing the 911 system, communicating threats and resisting a public officer.
In a written statement released to media outlets, Sheriff Sam Page said, "We take all threats serious and was glad when this man was located. We often work with the Secret Service and, fortunately, it is not ordinarily for this reason. I believe this is the first threat made against a President since I have been Sheriff."
