FERRUM, VA. - The Ferrum College community is in shock after a student was killed by a hunter who mistook her for a deer.

Jessica Goode, 23 of Fredrick County, Va., died after she was shot in the chest. Another student, Regis J. Boudinot, 20 of McLean, Va, is recovering after the same shot that killed Goode ricocheted and hit him in the hand. He is recovering. A third student was uninjured.

Investigators said the students were collecting frogs for a biology class Tuesday, Nov. 17 about a mile west of campus when the hunter shot them.

David Cloutier, 31 of Ferrum, Va., was charged with manslaughter, reckless handling of a firearm and trespassing. He was on county owned property when he shot the students.

Students at Ferrum College are remembering Goode with campus memorials and a Facebook page and hundreds are leaving prayers for her family.
