WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Habitat for Humanity, with the help of students at Wake Forest University and other groups, is transforming five homes on Cherry St.
On Saturday morning, Demon Deacon baseball players traded their bats and gloves for hammers and saws to work on one of the homes as part of the Labor of Love Blitz. The weekend event honors the late Jimmy Johnson, a well-known builder who led the Home Builders Association and supported Habitat.
"I've worked at one of these houses before, and I know they are always really excited and really thankful for everyone who's out here," said Ryan Semeniuk, one of the players.
Robin Wiggins and her two children were on hand Saturday to watch their home go up with the help of lawyers.
"I never thought I would have been here unless I hit the lottery," she said. "To be here right now and hot hit the lottery, hey, can't ask for anything better."
