A runner from Greensboro finished fourth in the Badwater Ultramarathon, a grueling, 135-mile run that begins in Death Valley, California.

Engle, 46, specializes in long and slightly crazy races and has even run across the continent of Africa. He finished Badwater in a time of 25 hours and 45 minutes. Anyone who completes the race in under 48 hours gets a belt buckle.

He was one of 86 runners in the event, 10 of which had dropped out by the time Engle finished the race. A woman from Colorado finished fifth around noon Tuesday.

The temperatures in Death Valley are among the hottest in the U.S. On Tuesday, it was 121 degrees.
