A Thomasville woman and her boyfriend face felony child abuse charges after, police say, the man slammed the woman's 11-month-old girl on a concrete floor earlier this week.Late Friday, the baby was in critical but stable condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where she was airlifted after being treated initially at Thomasville Hospital for a skull fracture.
Police said Jeremy Jordan, 32, was watching the baby Wednesday when he grabbed her by the waist and slammed her on a concrete floor.
The little girl's mother, Shanda Robinson, 39, came home from work when she found out what happened to her daughter, a neighbor of the couple, Judy Grissett, told FOX8 News.
"She came down through here and they wouldn't let her look in the door or anything," Grissett said. "She was devastated and went plum to the ground."
Grissett said the couple moved into the South Gate Garden apartment complex in Thomasville about five months ago with Robinson's twin babies.
"A lot of times the twins would be sitting on the floor, and him and her would be laying on the floor playing with them," said Grissett, noting Jordan appeared to care about the babies.
Jordan was jailed in the Davidson County Jail under a $500,000 bond. He faces charges of felonious intentional child abuse and felonious assault with a deadly weapon.
Jordan was charged with assault on a child under 12 in High Point in 2004. According to court documents, he hit an 8-year-old boy in the face. He pleaded guilty and paid a $115 fine.
Robinson is also charged with felonious child abuse and was jailed under a $250,000 bond.
Police would not comment on Robinson's involvement in the case.
