Stanley Battle (February 24, 2009)

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor Stanley Battle said Tuesday he will resign because of family and personal reasons effective June 30.

Battle, a member of the school faculty, took office July 1, 2007, as the 11th chancellor/president of the university. He shared his decision to resign with UNC President Erskine Bowles.

"This has been a remarkable experience for Judy and me," Battle said in a written announcement from the university. "We deeply appreciate the opportunity the Aggie family and the UNC system afforded us to help bright young minds grow, develop and prepare for a competitive global environment."

Before coming to A&T, Battle was president of Coppin State University in Baltimore, vice chancellor for academic and multicultural affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and associate vice president of academic affairs at Eastern Connecticut State University. Bowles said in a statement that he is grateful for Battle's commitment to strengthening A&T both fiscally and academically.
