GREENSBORO, N.C.—
Movie-goers who talk, text or check their e-mail on their cell phones during a movie at the Four Seasons Grand Theatre will be escorted out without a refund, according to a recently implemented policy.According to the policy, which was put in place earlier this month, customers must keep their cell phones on vibrate or silent and leave the theater to take a call or type a text message.
Briana Barner was kicked out of the theater recently for using the Internet on her phone to check the balance on her account.
"It was just embarrassing that I had to be escorted out of the movie theater," she said. "I was on my phone for two seconds. I was on the Internet checking my balance on my account, and I was asked to leave the theater because I was disturbing the other customers."
"I know nobody could've complained, because I wasn't in there long enough for someone to have gotten the security guard to complain," she said.
But the policy doesn't require anyone to complain in order to be enforced, and people heading into the theaters are being handed fliers that explain the ban.
In Barner's case, the flier was given to one girl in her group of movie-going friends and a security worker explained it was a warning for everyone.
"I did not get a refund back. I did not get the money and neither did the girls I was with," she said.
Barner was also banned from the theater for the rest of the evening.
