Authorities charged a 42-year-old man with sexually assaulting his 9-year-old niece over the past six months.
Jose Luis Antunez, of 2215 Peachtree St., was arrested Monday morning and charged with one count of first-degree sexual offense with a child and nine counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Last week, officers responded to 2049 E. Sprague St. about a reported rape, and the preliminary investigation revealed the victim was a 9-year-old girl and the crimes occurred at Antunez's home.
According to police, the victim is Antunez's niece, who lived with her uncle and his family.
Detectives said the assaults had been occurring since April 2009.
Antunez was jailed under a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20.
