A former Davie County middle school teacher arrested in Ohio on sex charges over the weekend was extradited to North Carolina on Thursday.
Doug Lee Ebersbach, 50, arrived in Davie County around 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Ebersbach, a former seventh-grade social studies teacher at William Ellis Middle School, was arrested Saturday at a home in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He faces four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of indecent liberties with a minor and one count of breaking and entering in connection with a relationship involving a female student, the Davie County Sheriff's Office said.
According to Sheriff Andy Stokes, Ebersbach could have taken indecent liberties with as many as 20 to 30 girls. Stokes wouldn't say exactly what the teacher was doing with students, but did say it was "sickening."
Stokes said additional charges will be brought against Ebersbach now that more victims are coming forward.
Ebersbach taught at South Davie Middle School for three years until he was transferred to William Ellis Middle School for the 2009-2010 school year due to "budget and staff reductions." He had worked with Davie County Schools since 2006.
Ebersbach was absent from his teaching position at William Ellis Middle School September 15-25. After Ebersbach found out about the charges, he resigned his position effective September 27 and moved to Ohio.
