HIGH POINT, N.C.—
Three dogs were found dead at a home on Terrell Dr. in High Point Wednesday after neighbors had been complaining of a foul odor coming from the house.High Point City Councilman Mike Pugh said High Point Police and animal control think the dogs may have been dead since January, when neighbors first complained to the city about a bad smell coming from the property. Authorities found a Jack Russell terrier, a pitbull and a hound mix dead.
"Someone here just didn't care about their pet at all." Pugh said.
Two of the bodies were found on chains in the backyard, while the other was found decomposing in the house.
FOX8 tried to contact animal control Wednesday, but our calls were not returned. Pugh says neighbors had been complaining since January, but authorities did not find the dogs until Wednesday.
"Somehow this fell through the cracks and this was allowed to happen and unfortunately these animals suffered a horrendous death." Pugh said.
Councilman Pugh has been pushing for new animal ordinances in High Point, including limiting how long an owner can tether a dog and how many someone can own.
Police were not releasing the dog owner's name, The owner was evicted from the home and police have issued a warrant for his/her arrest. He/she could face animal cruelty charges.
