CLEMMONS, N.C.—
Former Peak Fitness members are still upset about the way the gym handled their contracts. The contracts that gym members signed gave Peak Fitness permission to hand their contracts over to another gym if they went out of business. Contracts for Peak Fitness members in Clemmons were given to Fitness 2000 on Lewisville-Clemmons Road in Clemmons. Now some former Peak Fitness members are upset that their bank accounts are getting charged by Fitness 2000, and some have complained to the Better Business Bureau.
Whelan says the contracts are only binding for one and two-year memberships. Members who are signed up month-to-month may cancel at anytime.
Peak Fitness, based in Charlotte, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July and no longer has a presence in the Winston-Salem area. The Clemmons location was the last to close on August 31, 2009.
