Police make another arrest Saturday and uncover a key piece of evidence in connection with a fatal hit and run accident earlier this week.
Alton Womack Jr., 26, has been charged with felony hit and run. He was arrested at a home at 2902 Lees Chapel Rd. Also found at the home was an SUV police believe was used as a getaway vehicle.
Also on Saturday, additional hit and run charges were filed against William Donzell McKenzie and Tony Phelps, both 27.
Early Monday, Police said Shaquetta Johnson was driving a 2004 Acura TSX on Highway 29 northbound around 3 a.m. when the car ran off the road to the right, hit an embankment and rolled several times. A passenger identified as 23-year-old Cherita Jones, was killed in the crash. Johnson suffered a head injury in the crash,
At the same time, a silver BMW hit the median concrete barrier that separated the north- and southbound lanes of the highway. Four men in the BMW ran away from the scene, including Parker and Richardson, police said.
People in a third vehicle that arrived moments after the two crashes, reportedly pulled Johnson from the Acura and drove off in the SUV.
Johnson, 25, surrendered to police the day after the crash. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter, felony hit and run and driving with a revoked license. Johnson was released after posting a $15,000 bond, police said.
Thursday, police arrested Antoine Parker, 17, and his cousin, Chasheem Richardson, 28, both from New York. Both are charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer and leaving the scene of a crash.
Also charged in the accident is Shelton Phelps, a passenger in the Tahoe according to police. Phelps has been charged with felony hit and run and aiding and abetting.
In all, police said eight people were involved in the hit and run.
