HondaJet Gives Tour of $100 Million Facility
GREENSBORO, N.C. - HondaJet will begin churning out light jets at its Piedmont-Triad International Airport facility Monday, and the company said increased demand has caused it to ramp up production above its initial plans.

At a tour of the facility Friday, HondaJet officials said the company has invested over $100 million in the airport location, which will begin producing the $3.9 million airplanes on a limited basis Monday. Full production is scheduled to begin by late 2010.

Initial plans from the company were to produce 70 jets a year, but higher demand has upped the production estimates to 100 annually.

Construction will begin this summer on a 190,000-square-foot facility that will give HondaJet a total of 250,000 square feet -- enough space to turn out those 100 jets a year with just one shift.

"Once we are fully up and running with production, we'll have over 600 full associates on staff with one shift of production, which may increase with demand for the product," said Stephen Keeney, a HondaJet spokesman.

Those jobs will pay up to $75,000 a year. Guilford Technical Community College is handling training for many of the jobs. You can fill out an application online by clicking the attached link (left).

"The intellectual capital is here. Their design capabilities are here. There are a lot of design products that will be born here that provides that capital to compete in a knowledge base from a worldwide point of view," said Pat Danahy of Action Greensboro.

"It's an outstanding achievement, and an outstanding boost for the economy here," added Dahany.

Friday, HondaJet said their expansion plans would mean an additional 200 jobs.
