Clyde Coffey, 76 (April 13, 2009)

Agents with the State Bureau of Investigations met with a Wilkes County Wlidlife Resource Commission officer Friday about the April 11 shooting that killed 76-year-old Clyde Coffee.

This comes on the same day the Wilkes County District Attorney released the 911 tapes.

Wildlife commission officials have confirmed officer Mark Minton shot Coffey in the chest behind Coffey's cabin in the McGrady community.

Minton is a 12-year veteran of the division

In a previously issued statement, the commission spokeswoman Penny Miller said: "An armed confrontation with a hunter resulted in Officer Minton firing a shot, apparently in self-defense, which led to the death of the alleged assailant."

According to the 911 tapes, first responders soon realized Coffey was dead when they got there and described the scene as a madhouse.

The District Attorney has not filed any charges in the case. Officer Mark Minton remains on paid administrative leave.
