GREENSBORO, N.C. - More than 500 bicyclists gathered to honor a fellow rider who was killed in a hit-and-run collision last month.

David Sherman was a well-known cyclist who was hit and killed by an SUV as he rode on Church St. in Guilford County, just north of Greensboro.

Friends of Sherman organized 25 and 50-mile rides Sunday afternoon that began at the Fitness Center at High Point Regional Hospital.

Those who participated also wanted to raise awareness about bicycle safety. They remind drivers to share the road, but also emphasize that bicyclists wear helmets and ride in groups.

Grayson Dawson, of Eden, is charged with felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license in connection with Sherman's death.
