Heavy downpours trapped drivers in their cars and flooded streets across the Piedmont on Monday morning. On Centennial St. in High Point, police rescued a woman trapped in her car at an intersection then directed traffic in the area until the flooding eased.
At East Commerce Ave. and Park St., water rose and subsided quickly, leaving a line of debris on cars parked in the area. Crews there worked to clear storm drains of grass clippings and other debris, which may have contributed to the flooding.
Severe weather rolled across parts of the Piedmont overnight Sunday, hitting Davidson County particularly hard. Flooding caused some problems along Randolph St. and Taylor St. in the downtown district.
Nearly 300 people remain without power in the county as of late Monday morning.
