The man accused of fatally shooting one Winston-Salem police officer and injuring another died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, chest and abdomen, all fired by Officer Daniel Clark, according to the autopsy report from the Forsyth County Medical Examiner's Office.
The autopsy states that, according to investigative reports, Clark fired six rounds from his .40-caliber pistol at Monte Denard Evans, hitting him three times.
Sgt. Mickey Hutchens, who was killed during the gunfight, did not fire his weapon, the autopsy states.
According to Winston-Salem Police Chief Scott Cunningham, Evans fired the first shot, which hit Hutchens, before Clark returned fire and killed Evans during the shootout, which took place near the Bojangles on Peters Creek Parkway last month. Clark was hit twice, one bullet striking his ear and the other striking the bulletproof vest that covered his torso.
The autopsy report also states that Evans had not been consuming alcohol immediately prior to his death.
