The struggling Oak Ridge Military Academy has laid off 11 staff members, the president of the school told FOX8.
Col. Roy Berwick, who runs the small military school, said none of affected workers are teachers.
Berwick would not describe the layoffs as voluntary, but said the 11 staff members essentially requested to be laid off so they could begin receiving unemployment compensation.
Faculty members at the school have been working for several weeks without pay in order to keep the school open. Berwick told FOX8 News last month it would take about $500,000 to keep the academy afloat.
