Maynard Norman Peters (KING POLICE DEPT. / September 23, 2009)
KING, N.C. -
Authorities charged an East Bend man with statutory rape of a child in connection with a series of alleged encounters he had with a juvenile in recent months, King police said.
Police said Maynard Norman Peters, 51, was found with the juvenile last week after he denied having seen the juvenile to both law enforcement and the child's parents.
Police also said Peters, on multiple occasions, picked up the juvenile from school without the knowledge of the juvenile's parents or school officials.
On one occasion, Peters allegedly took the victim from the victim's residence to Peters' home.
The suspect and victim communicated by cell phone, text message, instant message, e-mail and online, police said.
Peters is charged with felony statutory rape and felony statutory sex offense of a child in King. He's also facing the same charges in Yadkin County and a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Forsyth County.
Peters was jailed under a $455,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Stokes County on Oct. 12.
