RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. - Booster is one special puppy. The nine-week-old collie-German shepherd mix already earned the job as Ulah's Volunteer Fire Dept. mascot

Booster was minutes away from becoming another fire victim last week when his owner's home burned down in Asheboro.

"He was breathing but it was real shallow," said firefighter Charlotte Willett.

As they tried to revive Booster with an oxygen mask, a fellow fire fighter snapped a picture showing the small charred body alongside a fire truck.

"When he started breathing on his own, he looked up with the mask on and just looked at me. Just looked straight in my eyes and laid his head back down," added Willett. "That really got to me."

Since Booster was up for adoption, the members of the fire department decided to make him the station's official dog.

"They love him. He's had more pictures taken, they think he is just a good addition to the fire department."

For a dog lover like Willett, pulling Booster out of the fire and giving him a loving home at the station means a lot.

"I love my dogs like they were my children. I just want him to have a good chance, and he's having that chance."
