Burlington Says Sewage Spill Caused by Heavy Rains
BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) - The city of Burlington says a sewage spill on Wednesday was caused by heavy rains.

According to the city, between 400,000 and 500,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into the Haw River on Wednesday. The city says heavy rains at the wastewater treatment plant on Boywood Road caused the overflow.

The overflow started around 1 p.m. and was controlled by 6:15 p.m.

The city said it notified the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the overflow.
