A deer that smashed through a plate-glass window in Greensboro and ran into a children's gym Wednesday morning was treated for several cuts and released back into the wild later that afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said the deer ran full-speed through the front window of The Little Gym, a gymnasium for children on Battleground Ave., around 10 a.m.

"It was cooking. It was moving. I mean, it was the blink of an eye. It was going pretty quick," said Lane Lawing, who works next door and witnessed the spectacle.

"You think it's going to stop. You hope that it does, and the next thing you know, it jumps right through the window. It sounded like a car wreck. ... It startled us," he said.

Officials said children were inside the building at the time, but not in the room the deer crashed into.

"He was just bouncing all over the walls. I mean, going to town," said Joanne Vaughn, who manages a beauty salon nearby.

"It wouldn't stop until it wore itself out, and once it wore itself out, it just laid down," said Lawing.

About that time, Guilford County Animal Control Officer Paul Loflin arrived and began to put his 20 years of wildlife experience to work.

"He's got his Rambo hat on, his safari hat. Goes in there, ropes the thing up and goes home. It's pretty neat," said Lawing.

With the help of Greensboro police officers, Loflin corralled the deer, tied it up and carried it to a waiting truck.

According to eyewitnesses, a deer smashed through a window and ran into The Little Gym, a children's gym on Battleground Avenue.

Officials said children were inside the building at the time, but not in the room the deer crashed into.

Although the deer was bleeding and obviously scared, it didn't seem to be seriously injured. A veterinarian treated the animal for several cuts, after which it was released back into the wild.
