Animal advocates canvassed Guilford County Sunday in support of tougher animal cruelty laws in honor of Susie, a dog who was found in a park after a man severely burned and beat her.

Earlier this month, 21-year-old Lashawn Whitehead was sentenced to probation for animal cruelty and six to eight months in prison for setting Susie on fire. Volunteers and Susie canvassed Sunday for tougher animal cruelty laws in North Carolina. FOX8 Photojournalist Stephen Clapper went along.
