HIGH POINT, N.C. - A 2-year-old boy who was hit by a car during his own birthday party was released from the hospital late Monday morning after spending the weekend in intensive care.

Andre Wright's mother, Sieddha Breeden, said family members and neighbors were celebrating the little's boy's second birthday in their Amos St. yard Saturday night. She said several adults yelled for Maurice Belser to slow down as he drove down the street.

But when he came to a stop, it was too late. He had hit 2-year-old Andre, who had run out in the street to chase a ball.

Breeden said her son was still under Belser's car when it stopped, and when Belser jumped back in the car to back up, her child was laying under the car with his eyes closed. It wasn't until an adult picked Andre up that the boy started to cry, his head and nose bleeding.

"Most of my family says it was an angel with him," she said. "It was God with him, and I do believe that. But in my own opinion, my baby is strong. He's a soldier. He did it himself."

Belser was charged with careless and reckless driving and assault with a deadly weapon. He was jailed under a $30,000 bond.

Breeden said doctors told her Andre has blood on the brain, but that is expected to heal.

Breeden also said she forgives Belser, who's been apologizing to the family for the past two days.
